Maruti Suzuki has a good reputation for producing fuel-efficient cars. However, is this the case with all of its vehicles? Or is it just one of its marketing strategies? Well, today, we will look at the mileage of Maruti Suzuki Baleno Zeta Petrol variant and see where it stands in front of its new rival, Tata Altroz.
Maruti Baleno is one of the best selling premium hatchbacks in India. Recently, a Maruti Baleno owner did a mileage test and uploaded its video on his YouTube channel. He decided to perform a highway mileage test after driving his car for more than 12,000 km. The YouTuber said that he had also done a mileage test earlier. However, at that time, Baleno managed to provide a mileage of around 13 km/l.
As of now, the car has undergone its first major service at 10,000 km. So, the YouTuber decided to do one more test for better results.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno Petrol Mileage Test
The owner used the most common ‘tank-to-tank’ method for checking fuel-efficiency. In this test, you have to fill the tank up to its maximum capacity and refill the tank after the journey. Then you check the total fuel consumed and the total distance covered and measure the average by calculating manually.
For 80 percent of the journey, the car traveled on the highway and 20 percent in city traffic. Moreover, the driver decided to maintain a speed of 80 km/h on the highway to get maximum efficiency. However, in the owner’s opinion maintaining constant speed without cruise control is quite difficult on long trips. Apart from that, air-conditioning was maintained at 24 degrees celsius which the driver said was sufficient.
Result
Though the Multi-informational display of Maruti Baleno showed an average fuel economy of 25.0 km/l, when calculated via the tank-to-tank method, it turned out to be 20.70 km/l. The car covered a total distance of around 270 km and consumed 13.03 liters of petrol, and based on this; the efficiency was 20.70 km/l.
The mileage of Baleno is decent; however, if we compare it with its rival Tata Altroz then there is a considerable difference. Altroz returns a fuel economy of 28 km/l on the highway.
Points To Consider
The YouTuber covered a total of 270 km throughout the whole test. For half of the journey, there was only one person other than the driver in the car. During the second stretch of the journey, the car was stuffed with bags and other stuff that increased the weight of the vehicle. One can assume it to be the equivalent of four passengers.
In contrast, during the highway test of Tata Altroz, the driver was alone in the car. Additionally, Tata Motors has provided a cruise control system that maintains a constant speed. In short, the conditions in which Tata Altroz yielded the mileage of around 28 km/l were quite optimized.
Still, the difference is significant and allows us to conclude that Tata Altroz provides a better fuel-efficiency than Maruti Baleno. Moreover, the mileage of around 21 km/l for Baleno is not bad; in fact, it’s quite impressive.
