YouTube has confirmed that it’s beginning to test a new feature that will let users create 15-second videos. With the launch of this feature, YouTube is going to take a direct aim at TikTok.
Earlier in April 2020, it was revealed that YouTube is soon going to launch a feature called shorts to compete with the Chinese video-sharing platform Tiktok.
In the experimental feature, users will see an option called ‘create a video’ when they use their mobile to upload a YouTube video. The interface of YouTube’s new feature will be the same as TikTok. Users will have to tap on the record button to record their videos.
YouTube short video feature
The best part about the new YouTube feature will be that it will allow users to combine clips and create a 15-second video, which users can upload on the platform.
The drawback is YouTube won’t allow users to upload a video that is longer than 15 seconds. In other words, users will have to upload longer videos from the phone’s gallery.
YouTube has not provided details about the addition of various AR effects and background music to the new video feature. However, it is expected that these elements will soon make their way to the YouTube app.
Other rivals
Not only Youtube, but Instagram has also launched a new competitor for TikTok named Reels. Reels will also allow users to create 15 seconds and share them on Instagram.
Not only this, but the Indian OTT platform ZEE5 has also announced that soon it will be rolling out its short-video making platform named Hypershorts.
As TikTok is losing its grip due to censorship and the anti-Chinese apps sentiment in India, these new rivals can play a significant role in snatching its audience.
Let’s see how much impact YouTube’s new feature will make and how it will tackle other competitors like Instagram Reels and ZEE5 Hypershorts.
