In a bizarre yet audacious incident, Zoombombers managed to hack an ongoing court hearing involving the hacking of high profile Twitter accounts by a Florida-based teen. The hackers not only interfered with the digital hearing but also displayed a porn video, which ultimately forced the judge to call off the session. Zoombombers made their way into the Zoom call hearing posing as BBC and CNN reporters and started playing loud music and racial slurs.
The incident has been confirmed by several reporters who attended the meeting. According to Brian Krebs, a security journalist, the judge failed to set up the meeting in a secure manner that led the zoombombing. The meeting was set up in a manner that allowed participants to take over the screen.
The Zoom call hearing involved Graham Clark, a 17-year-old guy. He is considered to be the main culprit in one of the biggest hacking attacks on Twitter where high profile users, including Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Joe Biden, Barrack Obama, and the official Twitter handle of Apple were hacked.
Hackers posted Bitcoin wallet links and requested users to send Bitcoin. Twitter had to restrict the tweeting rights of all verified attempts in the wake of the hack. Clark is facing 30 felony charges in the case.
Christopher Nash, the judge presiding the meeting, said that he’d require a password next time. However, that wouldn’t help with zoombombers, and the court needs to implement settings to stop screen take over by participants.
