AMD Unveils Radeon RX 6000 Series Graphics Cards To Take On Nvidia

Today, the semiconductor-giant AMD has unveiled its three new Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards to compete with Nvidia’s looming presence in the market. The three new graphic cards – AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT ($649), Radeon RX 6800 ($579), and RX 6900 XT ($999) will directly compete with Nvidia RTX 3000 series cards. The company has claimed that these graphics cards can beat Nvidia’s 30-series citing benchmark scores.

With its RX 6000 series, AMD has also marked its entry in the field of first desktop graphics cards real-time ray tracing, Variable Rate Shading, and other DirectX 12 Ultimate features.

As per AMD’s slides shown during the launch, 300W RX 6800 XT beats Nvidia’s 320W RTX 3080 at 4K. It achieves a greater score in popular titles, including Battlefield 5, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, and Forza Horizon 4. The GPU delivers narrow losses in The Division 2, Resident Evil 3, and Wolfenstein Young Blood.

However, in other titles vis-a-vis Doom Eternal, Borderlands 3, Gears 5, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the two cards manage to keep at each other’s toes with no clear winner.

The costliest GPU of the series, RX 6900 XT, takes on RTX 3090 features 16GB of GDDR6 memory compared to Nvidia’s 24GB. It has a boost clock rate of 2250MHz (base clock rate is 2015MHz) and a cache of 128MB. Despite carrying a price tag that’s $500 lesser, AMD demonstrated that its graphics card had beaten Nvidia’s 3090.

All the three cards are based on RDNA 2 technology, have 2.5 slot design, and triple fan system.

AMD is also at an advantage because of its timing. The GPU maker company can cash in on Nvidia’s struggle to meet the high demands of its 3000 series cards. Nvidia recently announced that the shortage of RTX 3000 series cards would continue till the year-end, and this is where AMD can swoop in to disrupt Nvidia’s market.
