A while back, Activision put out a job listing with its description saying “WZM,” which clearly meant Warzone Mobile. Ever since then, Call of Duty: Warzone fanatics have been wondering if the battle royale game is coming to mobile.
Well, rejoice, because Activision recently confirmed that they want to expand Warzone to new regions, including mobile. It will be a separate first-person shooter mobile game from the already existing Call of Duty Mobile.
During Activision’s Q3 Earnings call, the American video game publisher revealed its future plans for COD Warzone and the upcoming Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War. Other than that, Rob Kostich, Activision’s President, answered some burning questions regarding the Call of Duty franchise across all platforms.
Mike NG, an Analyst from Goldman Sachs, asked Activision if there are “any opportunities to make Warzone truly cross-platform by making it available on mobile?” Surprisingly, Kostich answered the question by saying that they want to expand Warzone geographically by bringing it on mobile platforms.
Moreover, Activision confirmed that the studio wants to connect the “mobile experience with what’s happening with console and PC.” So, after launching Warzone for mobile, Activision wants to make the game cross-platform across PC, console, and mobile.
However, Kostich said that they have no further announcements on COD Warzone Mobile as of now. So, you might say that we’ll have to wait a bit longer before seeing Warzone on mobile.
If Warzone goes mobile in the future, there is no doubt that the COD community will grow exponentially. However, because of cross-platform across mobile, console, and PC, it will be incredibly hard for mobile players to compete against the players on the other two platforms.
