Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.3 Announced With Updated AppStream

Exactly three months after the beta release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.3, the Red Hat team has now announced a new stable version of the RHEL 8 platform called RHEL 8.3.

The latest stable release aims to deliver more stability with cloud-native innovation by introducing new security profiles, enhanced performance capabilities, and updated container tools.

What’s New In Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.3?

To make the Linux platform easily manageable, configurable, and automated, RHEL 8.3 has further expanded Red Hat System Roles. It has introduced new system roles such as kernel settings, log settings, SAP HANA, SAP NetWeaver, and management.

In addition, version 8.3 has also added new Secure Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) profiles to configure Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems more efficiently based on best security practices and standards.

Another important update is being brought to the Application Streams (AppStream) repository, which contains developer frameworks, databases, container tools, and other resources.

With RHEL 8.3, you will get the following tools with their latest version:

  • Git 2.26
  • Nginx 1.18
  • Node.js 14
  • Perl 5.30
  • PHP 7.4
  • Ruby 2.7

Going further, v8.3 also includes the updated container images for Buildah and Skopeo along with Podman 2.0 for managing containers and images.

For a full list of new features, enhancements, and bug fixes, you can read the RHEL 8.3 release notes.

How To Get RHEL 8.3?

Currently, the stable Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.3 is not officially out for use. The stable version will be available in the coming weeks and accessible to all active Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscriptions via the same Customer Portal.

Until then, if you have an active subscription for RHEL, you can try RHEL 8.3 beta from Red Hat’s Customer Portal.
