You Can Now Schedule Google Messages To A Custom Date Or Time

A new “Schedule Messages” feature is now rolling out for some Google Messages app users via a server-side update, according to XDA Developers.

As the name suggests, the new Google Messages app feature allows people to schedule messages at a particular date or time. Twitter user @besaireddy first spotted the feature on his device.

Based on the screenshots shared by him, you need to press and hold the send button right next to the message field to bring up the Schedule message options. From there, you can either opt for a predefined time or put your own time and date.

We haven’t been able to get our hands on this latest Google Messages feature, hence it’s difficult to say how far ahead in the future you can schedule messages for. But it would be amazing if there were no limits.

Once the date and time are set, you have to tap on the Save button and send it. A clock icon will now appear next to the scheduled message. If the scheduled timing isn’t to your liking, you can always change it by tapping on the scheduled message. A pop-up will appear where you can re-schedule the message, send it right away, or change its content.

XDA notes that the code relating to the feature is on Google Messages’ latest APK. In other words, the feature is ready for a wider rollout, hopefully in the coming weeks.

Although, it’s weird that such a useful feature took so long to arrive. Samsung users have been scheduling SMS for ages via Samsung’s default messaging app. Interestingly, the feature is still not available on the iPhone’s iMessage app, which is usually the source of inspiration for other messaging platforms.
