In an interview with Fast.com last month, OnePlus confirmed that the company will return to its original path of making flagship killers via affordable smartphones. Now, Pete Lau, the CEO, has confirmed on an Instagram page titled “OnePlusLiteZThing” that it is indeed working on budget smartphones.
While the rumor mill has already speculated that the upcoming budget smartphone from OnePlus will be named OnePlus Z, the Instagram page name further ensures no reason for denying it.
Pete Lau has said that initially the affordable smartphones will be released in Indian and European markets only. He also mentioned that OnePlus will bring its new line of budget smartphones to North America in the “near future”.
For six years, OnePlus has mostly focused on making one, beautifully crafted smartphone series. Now, it’s time we added something more to that. https://t.co/sMiHFRv3Rc

OnePlus was expected to release OnePlus Z or OnePlus 8 Lite along with OnePlus 8 Series but it seems that the plans had to be postponed due to Coronavirus pandemic.
On its “OnePlusLiteZThing” Instagram page, the company has posted July in Morse code which could indicate the release of OnePlus Z.
If rumors are to be believed, OnePlus Z is expected to arrive with a 90Hz AMOLED screen with an in-display fingerprint scanner, triple rear camera setup, Snapdragon 765G, and 4,000mAh battery with 30W warp Charging.
As for the pricing, speculations have indicated that OnePlus could launch OnePlus Z within $300.
The Chinese smartphone maker rose to fame as one of the most influential OEMs offering timely updates, combining frugality with flagship features and reliable support. However, with the release of the OnePlus 8 series touching the price tag of $999 and persistent issues in the flagship, the popularity of the company seems to be waning.
OnePlus Z could help the company in regaining the lost trust and establishing itself firmly as the flagship killer.
