Earlier this year, we reported about a brand new UbuntuDDE Remix that combines the power of Ubuntu Linux and Deepin Desktop Environment (DDE) from Deepin Linux.
After the successful launch of the first-ever UbuntuDDE Remix 20.04 LTS release, its project leader Arun Kumar Pariyar has now announced a new iteration called UbuntuDDE Remix 20.10 codenamed “groovy” (Groovy Gorilla).
Obviously, Remix 20.10 is built on the recently released non-LTS Ubuntu 20.10 Groovy Gorilla base system featuring Linux Kernel 5.8.0.
It has also ported a fresh and beautiful desktop environment from Deepin v20 and KWin window manager as default from Deepin’s fork of kwin.
Additionally, UbuntuDDE Remix Groovy features new Deepin native applications preinstalled such as Deepin Music, Device Manager, Deepin Calculator, Deepin Movies, System Monitor, Deepin Text Editor, and Deepin Terminal.
Furthermore, UbuntuDDE 20.10 also ships Firefox 81.0.2, LibreOffice 7.0.2.2 along with the latest Ubuntu base packages and Snap plugins for Software Center preinstalled and other software packages through OTA updates.
Since the beta release, Groovy has also added the Refresh button and Open As Administrator on the right-click, and fixed minor bugs such as rounded corners on the Dock, blur on Notification Panel, Lock screen wallpaper not changing, and glitches in windows manager.
Lastly, if you want to give UbuntuDDE Remix 20.10 a try, grab its ISO image from the download page and install it following the official installation guide. The only thing you need is a minimum of 4GB of RAM, at least 20GB of free space, and a 2GHz processor.
